Welcome to the Personnel/Manpower AFSC discussion blog. The purpose of this blog is to foster discussion between future Air Force officers interested in the Personnel/Manpower career field and current officers in Personnel/Manpower. The views expressed in this blog are solely the opinions of the individual authors and not of the United States Air Force nor the Department of Defense.

I heard that Personnel is merging with Services. How will this change affect the "personnel" AFSC? Will personnelists be working what were formerly considered Services jobs?
Are all aspects of personnel and manpower just pushing papers?
What other options does it afford you?
I've heard it is very flexible and good for joint spouse. Is this true?
What are deployment rates like for personnel assignments? Are most of the assignments stateside, or are there equal opportunities for overseas assignments?
Personnel has already merged with Manpower and I too heard that they will merge with Services. Each career field will have to learn the other career fields - yes, personnelists may have to perform services duties, as well as manpower, and in turn they'll have to perform all personnel duties.
There is a lot of administrative work that goes with Personnel & Manpower as the nature of the job is taking care of the "human weapon" to include their family members. While I recall have a lot of paperwork, I remember more that I dealt with even more "people issues". Yes, the personnel/manpower career field is versatile in that there are overseas and CONUS assignments available. I am not married but I will find out about the joint spouse opporunities and keep everyone posted.
Deployment rates for personnel will mirror the mission and tempo of the base assigned, so it can and will vary...i.e. fighter and tanker bases deploy often, whereas other MAJCOMs may not deploy as often. Personnel/manpower will go wherever our troops will be.
Do you have to work at Randolph doing the AFPC stuff for one assignment?
What is that like?
